EPA Honors Eight South Jersey Residents

PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded bronze medals for outstanding achievement to eight employees who reside in South Jersey.

Andrew Fan of Cherry Hill, an environmental engineer and remedial project manager, was honored for helping develop an innovative employee recruitment program. Fan has worked at the EPA for nine years.

Reginald Harris, also of Cherry Hill received two awards, one for his work developing an environmental mapping tool and another for promoting community outreach at the Diamond State Salvage site in Wilmington, De. Harris has been a regional environmental justice coordinator and senior toxicologist for the EPA since 1990.

Environmental Engineer Anthony Meadows, a Voorhees resident, was honored for promoting compliance with the Clean Water Act in the Potomac River watershed. Meadows has been an EPA employee for 14 years.

David West of Lindenwold was recognized for his work on developing an environmental mapping tool. West is an environmental scientist and 10- year employee of the EPA.

John J. Humphries III, an employee for 22 years and chief of the State Programs Branch of the Waste and Chemicals Management Division, was recognized for his contribution in enforcing underground storage tank upgrade requirements for more than 100,000 tanks in Region III. Humphries is from Erial, N.J.

Regina Starkey from Delran was recognized for her outstanding efforts in oil spill prevention. Starkey has been an enforcement coordinator since 1973.

For their part in the successful negotiation and settlement of a pollution case involving Hudson Foods, Jon Hundertmark from Berlin Township and Helene Drago of Stratford were recognized. Hundertmark is an environmental engineer with 26 years experience at the EPA. Drago is an environmental scientist with nine years experience.

"All these employees deserve applause for their hard work. Thanks to them, the mid-Atlantic Region is a cleaner, safer place to live," said W. Michael McCabe, EPA mid-Atlantic regional administrator.
