FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Lenexa, Kan., June 6, 2013) - EPA Region 7 is conducting sampling at the HPI Products Inc. site at 1300 S. 8th Street in St. Joseph, Mo. EPA is conducting pesticide, herbicide, and metals sampling at the site of a grain elevator demolition, due to a potential chemical release during the demolition.
HPI Products began the elevator demolition without consultation with the EPA. Upon learning of the demolition, EPA halted the work at the site pending sampling to determine if there is a human health risk associated with the demolition of the elevator.
No further demolition or work will be completed until the sampling results are final, which is expected to be in the second half of June.
