EPA to announce Shattuck decision

      Denver -- On Friday, June 16, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will announce its decision concerning the fate of the radioactive waste at the former Shattuck Chemical site at 1805 S. Bannock Street.

WHAT: Tim Fields, EPA’s Assistant Administrator of Solid Waste and Emergency Response, and Max Dodson, Assistant Regional Administrator for Ecosystem Protection and Remediation, will sign the EPA Record of Decision, which formalizes what will happen to the Shattuck waste. Both will make brief statements commemorating the event and will take questions from the media following the signing ceremony.
                  Those invited to participate, along with EPA’s officials, include: Governor Owens, Senators Allard and Campbell, Congresswoman DeGette, Doug Benevento, Director of Environmental Programs at the CDPHE, and representatives of Mayor Webb’s office, Denver’s City Council, the local community.

DATE: Friday, June 16, 2000

TIME: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

WHERE: Approximately 4.8 miles from Downtown Denver on south Bannock Street just east of the Shattuck Chemical property located at 1805 S. Bannock Street (near Evans Avenue and Santa Fe Drive). In case of inclement weather, the event will take place at the John Collins Methodist Church, 2320 S. Bannock. If weather forces use of the alternate site, we will notify your office by 9:00 a.m. on June 16.
