BOSTON -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services will hold a public meeting Sept. 17 to present an annual update on the cleanup of the Gilson Road Superfund Site off Route 111 in southeastern Nashua, N.H.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Main Dunstable Elementary School on 20 Whitford Road in Nashua.
Officials will present the annual report, a document that includes the latest groundwater and surface water quality data for the site, along with an update on the site's groundwater management zone. In addition, NH DES Project Manager Paul Heirtzler will introduce his replacement, Tom Andrews.
In cleaning up the Gilson Road Site, officials have constructed a 20-acre slurry wall around the contaminated wastes, placed an impermeable cap over the waste, and installed a system to pump and treat contaminated groundwater. The cap and slurry wall were completed in 1982, while the groundwater treatment facility operated from 1986 through 1996.
Copies of the annual report will be available for review January 18, 1998 at the following locations: Nashua City Clerk's Office, 229 Main Street, Nashua; NH DES Waste Management Division Director's Office, 6 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH, and; EPA Records Center, 90 Canal Street, Boston, MA.
