SACRAMENTO ENVIRONMENTAL LAB SUPERVISOR INDICTED
Gene Lee, a supervisor at Anlab, a Sacramento environmental testing laboratory, was indicted on July 30 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California in Sacramento on charges that he falsified test results on a contract with EPA. He was also charged with allegedly submitting false claims to the federal government. Lee is alleged to have manipulated computer-generated testing data to make it appear that the results of environmental tests performed at the Frontier Fertilizer Superfund site in Davis, Calif., met EPA’s standards, when, in fact, they did not. If convicted, Lee faces a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison and/or fines of up to $250,000 on each of the two counts with which he is charged. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division.
