U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christie Whitman will participate in a public meeting on asbestos-related illnesses with residents of Libby, Montana, on Friday, Sept. 7, between 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m (Mountain Daylight Time), at the Libby High School. Administrator Whitman is expected to make an announcement outlining how EPA intends to proceed with efforts to address asbestos-related illnesses in the community. Whitman, along with Montana Governor Judy Martz, U.S. Senators Max Baucus and Conrad Burns and U.S. Representative Dennis Rehberg, will meet with members of the community to discuss local issues and to answer questions. Whitman will be available for press questions at 11:15 a.m. Following the meeting at the Libby High School, Whitman will tour Libby and the surrounding area to learn more about the health issues being confronted there.
