170 Second Grade Students Take Pledge to Conserve Water in Los Angeles on “Protect Your Groundwater Day”
LOS ANGELES—On Tuesday, September 9th, the Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD), in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will celebrate national “Protect Your Groundwater Day” with 170 second grade students at Hooper Ave Elementary School in Los Angeles, Calif.
During the educational assembly and celebration, the students will take the Acknowledge, Consider and Take Action (A.C.T.) Pledge, a promise to help protect and conserve south Los Angeles County’s groundwater supplies. The students have learned that every individual has a role in protecting groundwater, the largest source of fresh water in the United States and the world.
There are two fundamental ways to protect groundwater resources: keep it safe from contamination, and not waste it. With the drought gripping much of California, protection of groundwater through conservation is more important than ever and the education of children and young adults is vital.
