U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christie Whitman on Friday will visit two Maine coastal locations to present funds to help ensure the safety of Maine’s water.
First, Whitman will visit Sebago Lake, Standish, Maine, to present the Portland Water District with a grant for water security planning. The grant is being provided under a Congressional appropriation following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to improve the safety and security of the nation’s water supply.
Later, at Ferry Beach, Saco Township, Whitman will present the state of Maine with a grant to help ensure beach water safety. The funds are available under the BEACH Act of 2000 and will be used to improve water monitoring and public notification.
