The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) are hosting a household hazardous waste collection event in Vermilion Parish this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4 and 5.
These wastes include normal household materials that can harm the environment if not handled properly, like batteries, paint, solvents, and pesticides.
EPA and DEQ encourage area residents to bring flood-damaged household hazardous waste to the Vermilion Parish drop-off center. It's next to the Vermilion Parish solid waste plant on Birch Road, about a quarter mile north of LA highway 696, and will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.
EPA and DEQ are also collecting barrels or tanks deposited by the flood in Vermilion Parish. Residents can call 800-401-1327 to report these and request disposal.
