EPA Announces $4.4 Million in Grants to Clean Up Contaminated Sites in Indiana

(CHICAGO – May 29, 2012) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $4.4 million in grants to redevelop contaminated properties, create jobs and protect public health in Indiana. These “brownfield grants” are used to assess and clean up abandoned industrial and commercial properties.

"EPA's brownfield grants will spur redevelopment in Indiana," said EPA Region 5 Administrator Susan Hedman. “These grants will help prepare contaminated properties for productive uses.”

The Indiana brownfield grants were distributed as follows:

· Clinton County, Site Assessment, $400,000
· Eastern Indiana Development District, Site Assessment, $540,000
· Indianapolis, Site Assessment, $400,000
· Indianapolis, Cleanup, Former National Malleable Castings Company, $200,000
· Kokomo, Site Assessment, $600,000
· Logansport, Site Assessment, $686,500
· Muncie, Site Assessment, $591,600
· Noblesville, Site Assessment, $400,000
· Union City, Site Assessment, $600,000
