The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is helping to get the French Quarter back on its feet by setting up two household hazardous waste collection points on Friday and Saturday in support of a neighborhood-wide cleanup effort, sponsored by a group of French Quarter organizations.

The Agency will accept residential household hazardous waste at collections sites located on the corner of North Rampart and Esplinade and the corner of Royal and Saint Philips on Friday, November 18 from 8:00am to 4:00pm and on Saturday, November 19 from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

The Agency will accept a variety of wastes from homes, including batteries, paint, solvents, thermostats and lawn and garden products.  EPA will not accept hazardous wastes from commercial establishments.  Once collected and separated, the wastes will be shipped to proper disposal facilities.

EPA is working in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality under a unified command to collect household hazardous wastes throughout hurricane-impacted Parishes.  The agencies run regular curbside collection in Orleans Parish.  For specific information on household hazardous waste collection in your area, please call 1-800-401-1327 or visit http://epa.gov/region6/katrina/parishes.htm.
