GRANTS AWARDED TO BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
TO ESTABLISH SMALL BUSINESS MENTORING PROGRAMS
EPA has awarded $25,000 in grants to four black colleges and universities to establish small business mentoring programs. The schools receiving the grants to organize and operate the mentoring programs are A&M University in Alabama, Jackson State University in Mississippi, Southern University in Louisiana and Prairie View A&M University in Texas. Through the agency’s Science and Innovative Research program, the Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization program, the Small Business Administration and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, EPA created a pilot program to motivate small, disadvantaged business to develop and commercialize new environmental technologies. The co-sponsors envision the pilot program as a catalyst to spur new research at the academic institutions and an opportunity to forge new partnerships to enhance business development within the local community. They will help businesses prepare competitive proposals, conduct sound and successful research, and commercialize new environmental technologies.
