(Seattle, Wash.—4/22/2009) Three Washington Universities are being recognized for their purchase of green power. Western Washington University, Evergreen State College and Pacific Lutheran University made significant green power purchases to offset energy consumption, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
The College & University Green Power Challenge Championship, a part of EPA’s Green Power Partnership, tracks green power purchasing by colleges and universities across collegiate athletic conferences. By purchasing green power, these universities reduce the environmental impact associated with conventional electricity use.
● Western Washington University, a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, purchased 40,000,000 kilowatt-hours of green power
● Evergreen State College, member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference, purchased 16,206,000 kilowatt-hours of green power
● Pacific Lutheran University, member of the Northwest Conference, purchased 7,764,660 kilowatt-hours of green power
