NINE COMMUNITIES SELECTED TO RECEIVE
BROWNFIELDS CLEANUP LOAN FUNDS

EPA recently selected seven communities to receive new Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund grants in Pennsylvania and Michigan. The recipients include the cities of Dearborn and Trenton in Michigan and the cities of McKeesport, Clairton, Duquesne and Lehigh and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania. Each community selected will receive $500,000. The revolving loan fund grants are awarded to states and tribes and political subdivisions to capitalize Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Funds. These monies will be used to provide loans to public and private parties for the cleanup of brownfields properties. In addition, EPA also recently selected three cities to receive supplemental funding for their existing BCRLF pilots. The cities of Shreveport, La. and Trenton, N.J. will reach receive an additional $500,000 and Stamford, Conn. will receive an additional $250,000 to fund their revolving loan fund. A brownfields site is an abandoned, idled or under-used industrial or commercial property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental problems.
