PHILADELPHIA- The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $241,100 grant to Summit Township Sewer Authority in Erie County, Pa. to help pay for extending sewer service to the Weber Hills and Ponderosa Drive subdivisions along the northern boundary of the township.
“Upgrading public sewage systems can play a vitally important role in preventing sewage from contaminating sources of drinking water and recreational waters,” said Donald S. Welsh, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.
The proposed sewer line, which will serve 99 homes, one church and one rehabilitation facility, will be connected to the Authority’s existing sewer system on Old Perry Highway.
The sewer upgrade is designed to eliminate potentially health hazards from malfunctioning on-lot septic systems and raw sewage discharges in the Walnut Creek watershed. The overall cost of the sewer extension project is about $1.5 million.
