The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has notified the State of Louisiana and other stakeholders of a delay in the Louisiana Title VI investigation being conducted under the Civil Rights Act. The EPA intends to announce its preliminary findings on Friday, April 3, 1998. The original announcement was scheduled for February 4, 1998.
The delay is necessary to complete a comprehensive review of information collected during the investigation, compile the public record, and finalize the EPA's findings. Included in the revised schedule will be an opportunity for the public to comment on information collected by EPA and the methodology EPA plans to use in making its preliminary decision.
EPA has notified the Tulane Law Clinic, St. James Citizens for Jobs and the Environment, Louisiana Environmental Action Network, Governor Foster, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and Shintech, Inc. of this delay.
