EPA to Hold Availability Session Regarding American Creosote Works, Inc. Superfund Site in Louisville, Miss.

(ATLANTA – January 11, 2007) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold an availability session on Thursday, January 18, 2007 regarding the American Creosote Works, Inc. National Priority List site in Louisville, Mississippi. EPA officials will provide information, answer questions and address citizen concerns about the removal action underway at the site.


    The availability sessions will be held from 10:00 a.m. to12:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Louisville Community Center, 605 West Main Street in Louisville.     The American Creosote Works site is a former wood treating facility located on Highway 15 at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Baremore Street, within the city limits of Louisville. The site is approximately 120 acres in size and is located in an industrial, commercial and residential area. The facility began operation in 1912 and operated as a creosote wood treating facility under several owners until approximately 1997.
