EPA AND NORCHEM CORPORATION SIGN AGREEMENT
EPA signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Norchem Corp., Los Angeles, Calif. to promote two laundry detergents that minimize environmental impacts, one for industrial, the other for institutional cleaners. Under this MOU, EPA will provide technical advice and support in reformulating and improving Norchem Corporation’s “NUpHASE” and “MAXIMIZE” detergent products. Norchem Corp. has agreed to formulate the products based on cleaning agents that quickly biodegrade into non-polluting byproducts. These new formulas will also contain chlorine-free oxygen-based bleaching agents and mild, biodegradable solvents. Additional environmental benefits associated with these low-temperature formulations include increased water and energy efficiencies and extended fabric life. The voluntary agreement was established under EPA’s Design for the Environment (DfE) program. EPA’s DfE program engages several industry sectors, including institutional and industrial laundries, automotive refinishing, garment care, electronics and printing.
