McKEES ROCKS, Pa. - L.D.G. Company of McKees Rocks, Pa. will pay a $4,300 penalty for failing to register a pesticide with the EPA.

The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act requires that any product that is labeled or promoted as a pesticide must be registered with EPA in order to avoid the health and environmental threats posed by false, misleading, or unverifiable claims.

EPA cited L.D.G. for selling an unregistered pesticide called “Slimy Grimy,” which was promoted as a product that eliminates mold, mildew and algae. “Slimy Grimy”, a boat cleaning solvent, is the company’s only product. This alleged violation was uncovered by Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

As part of the settlement agreement, the company neither admitted nor denied liability, but has certified that it is now in compliance with registration requirements.
