During a November 5 ceremony in the New Mexico Capitol Rotunda, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presented nine Regional Administrator's Environmental Excellence Awards.
"These awards are a wonderful reminder of the many people and organizations who are working to protect our environment and the public health. It's nice to be able to recognize a few very important contributions today," EPA Regional Compliance Assurance and Enforcement Deputy Director Barbara Greenfield said.
New Mexico Environment Secretary Pete Maggiore also participated in the ceremony. He said, "We tend to focus more on environmental problems than environmental successes. Each of these winners sacrificed a great deal to preserve and protect our quality of life. We cannot overstate the importance of environmental responsibility."
During the ceremony winners were given plaques, Environmental Excellence flags and Environmental Excellence pins.
