PHILADELPHIA (July 26, 2007) - - Throop residents are invited to participate in a public meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 31 in the Throop Borough Civic Center to discuss the preliminary design of the cleanup remedy for the Marjol Battery and Equipment Company site, now owned by Gould Electronics, Inc.
Representatives from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will explain the plans to consolidate the contaminated material and construct a protective cap at the site to prevent future releases.
The cleanup is required under the consent order that Gould Electronics, Inc. signed with EPA and Pennsylvania DEP in 2006 to complete the cleanup of lead contamination and other chemicals from the site, a former lead battery crushing and reclamation site.
