(11/9/05) EPA is amending its existing emission standards for nitrogen oxides (NOx) for new commercial aircraft engines. Nearly all aircraft engines previously certified or in production already meet or exceed the new, more stringent standards, which will apply to engines used on commercial aircraft for small regional jets, single-aisle aircraft, twin-aisle aircraft, and 747s and larger aircraft. General aviation and military aircraft using commercial aircraft engines subject to this rule will also contribute to NOx emission reductions. Today's action will bring the United States aircraft standards into alignment with international standards, which became effective in 2004. The rulemaking and related documents are available at: https://www.epa.gov/otaq/aviation.htm
