EPA Awards $1.2 Million Grant for Worthington Drinking Water System

WORTHINGTON, W.Va. – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $1,235,316 grant to Worthington, Marion County to improve and expand the town’s drinking water system.

Funds will be used to replace deteriorated sewer lines and extend drinking water service to the Tevebaugh Creek Road, Parrish Run, and Festus areas. The project will benefit 287 residences in the Town of Worthington and 135 residences in the expanded area that currently rely on private wells from groundwater sources that are inadequate.

The new system will eliminate leaks, inadequate water supply, lack of water storage, and insufficient fire protection.

“This is an important step in making sure the residents of Worthington and the surrounding area have safe, reliable drinking water,”said Bradley M. Campbell, EPA’s mid-atlantic regional administrator.

The grant will pay for 96 percent of the $1,286,787 project cost, and the West Virginia Infrastructure Jobs Development Council will provide the four percent local cost share.
