U.S. EPA TO HOLD PUBLIC WORKSHOP, HEARING ON INJECTION WELLS

EVENTS: U.S. EPA representatives will hold an afternoon
public information workshop to discuss U.S. EPA's
draft Underground Injection Control (UIC) permit to
Maui County for existing and new injection wells at
the Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility. This
will be followed by an evening public hearing to
solicit verbal and written comments from the public
on the proposed permit.

NOTE: The proposed permit's limit on underground
injection well discharges would be equal to the
the Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility's
current treatment capacity of 6.7 million gallons
per day. The new injection wells, which are
required by state regulations, would be for
emergency use only. Copies of the draft permit are
available at the public libraries in Lahaina and
Kahului. U.S. EPA will be accepting written
comments on the proposal until February 15,
