(Atlanta – September 2, 2005) Nine new facilities in the Southeast have been added as members of the EPA’s National Environmental Performance Track Program.  The Performance Track Program rewards facilities that voluntarily exceed regulatory requirements, implement systems for improving environmental management, work with their communities, and set three-year goals for improvements in environmental performance.  Only facilities with a record of sustained compliance with the environmental requirements are eligible to participate in this program.  With the addition of these nine new facilities, 66 facilities in Region 4 have committed to superior environmental performance in the Performance Track Program.

The new Performance Track member facilities include:

    • BFGoodrich Tire Manufacturing, Opelika, Ala.;
    • Michelin North America - Dothan, Ala.;
    • Monsanto, Augusta, Ga.;
    • Louisiana-Pacific Wilmington EWP, Wilmington, N.C.;
    • Michelin North America Spartanburg Manufacturing, Spartanburg, S.C.;
    • Michelin North America Greenville Manufacturing, Greenville, S.C.;
    • Michelin North America, Sandy Springs, S.C.;
    • Michelin North America Starr, Anderson, S.C.; and
    • Fuji Hunt Photographic Chemicals, Dayton, Tenn.
New Performance Track facilities have made strong commitments to the environment in a wide range of categories.  For example, Michelin Spartanburg Manufacturing in Spartanburg, S.C., plans to reduce water usage by 4 million gallons and its energy use by more than 40,000 million British thermal units (MMBtus).

The Performance Track Program, established in 2000, currently has more than 370 members in 46 states and Puerto Rico.  Performance Track encourages participation by all-size facilities.  The major industries are represented with manufacturers of chemical, electronic and electrical, and medical equipment composing nearly 40 percent of the current members.  The public sector is also represented by members such as national defense installations, postal facilities, and municipalities.
