NEVADA COMPANY AND EMPLOYEES INDICTED
Fluid Polymers Inc. of Las Vegas, Nev., Gene M. LeFave, the company’s former president, and Louis LaFave, an employee, were indicted on Aug. 26 in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona in Phoenix on federal charges of conspiracy, illegal disposal of hazardous waste, injury to federal property and violating the Clean Water Act. Fluid Polymers Inc., and the LaFaves allegedly dumped 55-gallon drums of wastes on state and federal lands. In 1995, Gene LeFave sold Fluid Polymers Inc., to a corporation that required him to dispose of all waste materials held at the business. Both LeFaves have already been convicted of dumping waste in California and are currently serving sentences in federal prison. If convicted on the current charges, each of them face an additional maximum prison term of up to 23 years and/or up to $1 million in fines. Fluid Polymers Inc., faces up to $2 million in fines, if convicted on all charges. This case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Bureau of Land Management.
