PHILADELPHIA - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $9,686 environmental education grant to the Glenville State College in Gilmer County, W. Va. to enhance its Little Kanawha Watershed Project.

“It’s always uplifting to support an educational project that gives students an opportunity to learn about their local watershed and what they can do to help protect our precious water resources,” said Donald S. Welsh, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

The college will use the funding to support the watershed project by expanding environmental science research opportunities that focus on studying and evaluating the Little Kanawha Watershed.

Since 1992, EPA has provided nearly $3 million annually to local organizations and schools nationwide. These grants fund education programs in nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and governmental agencies supporting a wide range of environmental issues for citizens of all ages.
