UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND RECEIVES GRANT
TO STUDY INDOOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY
TO STUDY INDOOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Dave Ryan 202-564-7827 / [email protected]
EPA has awarded a grant of $37,000 to the University of Maryland to study the energy efficiency of combining heating, air conditioning and power systems in small buildings. These combined systems have the potential to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide -- the main global warming gas -- by up to 70 percent, improve indoor air quality and increase the availability of reliable power.
The US Department of Energy Roadmap for the Office of Building Technology states that by the year 2020 these combined systems will be the preferred method of energy utilization in buildings. (The Roadmap is a short document that lays out DOE’s plan to develop combined heat and power systems for federal and private buildings throughout the United States).
This grant will help builders and engineers successfully adopt and install these energy efficient cooling heating and power systems in buildings.
