CHICAGO (Oct. 31, 2005) — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has filed an administrative complaint against TWF Industries Inc., Barrett, Minn., for alleged violations of federal and state rules on the management of hazardous waste. A $270,700 penalty is proposed.
TWF was storing hazardous chromium waste without a permit at its 415 Second St. metal finishing facility. As an EPA-designated small quantity generator, TWF is allowed to store hazardous waste at its facility for up to 180 days without a permit. EPA inspectors determined that TWF kept waste for 363 days.
Under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976, EPA regulates hazardous waste from its production to final disposal. TWF may request a hearing or settlement conference to discuss resolving the complaint. |
