The 1999 Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Conference will be held Sept. 20-23 in Washington, D.C. to discuss subjects such as civil disturbances, leaks of toxic chemical and explosions, and terrorist attacks. Nearly 2,000 people from throughout the United States and some foreign countries are expected to attend. Featured speakers will include: Dr. Sadyoshi Ohbu of St. Luke’s Hospital, Tokyo, Japan, one of the chief physicians who treated victims of the Tokyo subway terrorist attack; Don Haldiman, FBI special agent, who investigated the bombings of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Okla. and the World Trade Center in New York, N.Y.; and Nick Vent of the San Diego Hazardous Materials Division, who has responded to more than 3,000 incidents. The four-day conference, which is produced by EPA Region 3 and co-sponsored by the Chemical Manufacturers Association and the Department of the Army, will be held at the Hilton Washington & Towers, 1919 Connecticut Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C.
