CLEAR SKIES DURING VISIT TO JEA IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA

EPA Administrator Christie Whitman tomorrow will visit JEA in Florida where she will receive a letter, addressed to the President, of support from the Large Public Power Council for multi pollutant legislation. Whitman will tour the Northside Generating Station and then give remarks about the President’s Clear Skies Act which will achieve mandatory reductions of 70 percent in three of the most noxious air pollutants emitted by power plants - nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and mercury.

From 9A, take Heckscher Drive east to plant entrance on north side of road. Media must report to security guard station to obtain media passes. For the security of this operating power plant, all visitors must be escorted to the starting point of the tour. NOTE: Please wear comfortable, but sturdy shoes (no thin heels), and slacks as tour includes grated stairs and walkway.
