EPA Proposes No Further Action at Campmarina Manufactured Gas Plant in Sheboygan; Public Meeting on Aug. 8

(CHICAGO - August 7, 2012) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting to take comments about its nearly completed emergency cleanup at the Wisconsin Public Service Corp. Campmarina Manufactured Gas Plant site. After the emergency cleanup is completed, EPA proposes no further action at the site on the Sheboygan River near the former gas plant at 732 N. Water St.
The EPA’s public meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Mead Public Library, Rocca Meeting Room, 710 N. Eighth St., Sheboygan. Agency representatives will make a presentation, accept oral comments and answer questions. Wisconsin Public Service, a utility company, is legally responsible for cleaning up the property’s contamination, primarily a hazardous compound called polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons or PAHs.
