LOCAL DEVELOPER RECEIVES AWARD FOR DRINKING WATER PROTECTION EFFORTS

HAMDEN, CT - The Fusco Corporation, a real estate developer located in New Haven, received a Drinking Water Protection Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New England Water Works Association. The company received the award for protecting the Mill River, a tributary to Lake Whitney which supplies drinking water to New Haven and twelve surrounding communities.

Fusco installed two state-of-the art storm water management basins to collect and treat storm water runoff prior to discharge to the Mill River. One catch basin receives runoff from Fusco's own property and the second catch basin treats runoff from a nearby twelve-acre twelve (12) acre industrial park.

EPA-New England's Connecticut Manager, John Hackler, said: "The Fusco Corporation's efforts to protect a valuable Connecticut drinking water supply are highly commendable. Both EPA and New England Water Works are hoping other businesses will follow their environmental leadership."

The Southern Connecticut Regional Water Authority nominated the Fusco Corporation for protecting water quality in the Lake Whitney watershed.

This is the second year EPA and New England Water Works Association have recognized businesses who voluntarily work to protect valuable New England drinking water supplies.
