BALTIMORE - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently presented its prestigious Partnership Award to CSX Transportation, Inc., for its extensive outreach programs to emergency responders and planners. One of 18 award winners, CSX was recognized during EPA’s Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Conference held in Baltimore.
EPA’s mid-Atlantic region presents the partnership awards to companies, organizations, agencies or individuals who demonstrate exceptional creativity or innovation in emergency preparedness, planning and response.
In 2002, CSXT provided a broad range of training programs to more than 4,200 emergency responders in 16 states. EPA also recognized CSXT for designing and sponsoring a series of multi-media tabletop exercises in 95 communities throughout their 23-state operating area. CSXT also updated its community awareness and emergency prevention guide and distributed it to more than 750 Local Emergency Planning Committees in 23 states. This valuable information will help provide detailed information to supplement existing emergency plans and better prepare communities to deal with railroad related emergencies involving hazardous materials.
