NATIONAL ENFORCEMENT INVESTIGATIONS
CENTER GARNERS APPROVAL
EPA’s National Enforcement Investigations Center (NEIC), located in Lakewood, Colo., was accredited by the National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) on Feb.1. This pioneering accreditation, which demonstrates the Agency’s ongoing commitment to sound science, is the result of an intensive three-year process in which NEIC and NFSTC cooperatively developed a rigorous set of national standards for collecting and analyzing forensic evidence in environmental enforcement cases, based on ISO 25 ("General requirements for the competence of calibration and testing laboratories"). The accreditation recognizes NEIC as a forensic center which displays overall excellence in field and laboratory environmental measurement and sampling, laboratory analysis, on-site investigations, and expert trial testimony. NEIC also is accredited under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program for determining asbestos levels in bulk materials. NEIC is a division of the Criminal Enforcement, Forensics and Training office and technical support center for enforcement and compliance assurance programs. NFSTC is an internationally-recognized non-profit organization established in 1995.
