SCIENTIFIC PEER REVIEW HELD FOR U.S. EPA PERCHLORATE DOCUMENT

SAN FRANCISCO - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host a two-day peer review workshop in Sacramento, Calif., March 5-6 on a draft perchlorate document currently undergoing independent scientific review.
The document, "Draft Perchlorate Environmental Contamination: Toxicological Review and Risk Characterization," was released for public comment on January 18, 2002.
The workshop is open to the public as observers and two opportunities are available for limited public comments, 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 and 8 a.m - 9 a.m. Wednesday March 6. Neither the scientific peer reviewers nor the public are expected to review or comment on this document in the context of any possible future EPA regulatory actions.
A press availability will be held from 12 p.m. to 12:30 on Wednesday March 6. U.S. EPA experts involved with drafting the report and studying perchlorate in the western states will be available to answer questions.
