Emergency cleanup underway at Los Angeles metal plating shop

LOS ANGELES - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has begun removing hazardous chemicals from Graybill Metal Polishing, Inc., a former metal plating firm, due to multiple violations of the nation’s hazardous waste laws.
Located at 1245 East Florence Avenue in Los Angeles, Calif., Graybill Metal Polishing until recently conducted copper cyanide, nickel and chrome plating and buffing and polishing operations.

Citing its emergency powers, the EPA then began securing and stabilizing the contaminated solutions, accumulated sludges, polishing dust, process containers, boardwalks and building material and arranging for the transportation and treatment and disposal to approved off-site facilities.
