Environmental education project in ND gets a boost from EPA

Denver -- Continuing its commitment to increase understanding of the importance of protecting the environment, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funded a University of North Dakota environmental education project. The $16,687 grant will used for training Native American teachers and students in conducting water quality analysis.

During four days of workshops at Little Hoop Community College in Fort Totten, participants will learn to implement mapping techniques and create web sites. Following that, they will receive four days of Computer Based Learning and Vernier training.

"Our grants support projects that enhance public awareness, knowledge and skills, so people can make informed decisions that affect environmental quality," Acting Regional Administrator Jack McGraw said, "This kind of hands-on project involves students of all ages and promotes the understanding that we are inextricably connected to and dependent on the environment."
