U.S. Steel quarterly public meeting slated March 31

CHICAGO (March 24, 2009) - U.S. Steel Corp. along with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management will hold a public meeting Tuesday, March 31, to update the public about the corrective action cleanup program at the USS Gary Works. The meeting will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Gary Public Library, 220 West 5th Ave.
Representatives from U.S. Steel, which is responsible for the cleanup and EPA, which will oversee the project, will discuss progress and future plans for investigation and cleanup. Included in the discussion will be plans to stop migration of contaminated ground water from the coke plant and closing three landfills on the site.
An official document file on this corrective action project has been set up at the Gary Public Library, Indiana Room.
