EPA TO HONOR LEADING WESTERN ENVIRONMENTALISTS FOR EARTH DAY

SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will pay tribute to 46 environmental leaders from throughout the Western U.S. on Tuesday morning, April 18 during a festive ceremony at the EPA office on 75 Hawthorne Street in San Francisco.
Seventeen of the honorees are from the Bay Area and Northern California, whose projects include an environmental justice effort in Richmond to benefit the Laotian community, a joint effort by ten Bay Area auto repair facilities to lessen the amount of pollution they produce and a San Francisco urban gardener who has taken his message worldwide.
The EPA Region 9 Earth Day Celebration acknowledges major accomplishments on behalf of the environment in California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada and tribal lands. Forty six groups and individuals were selected from 164 nominees received this year from businesses, media, local and state government officials, tribes, environmental organizations and community activists.
