U.S. EPA HOLDS PUBLIC MEETING ON KOPPERS SUPERFUND SITE

(San Francisco)--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) today announced it will hold two public workshops to discuss U.S. EPA's reevaluation of cleanup options for contaminated soils at the Koppers Superfund site, Oroville, Calif.
The two sessions will be held on December 14 in Oroville.
The first session will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Oroville City Hall, Conference Room No. 1, 1735 Montgomery St. The second session will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Butte County Public Library, 1820 Mitchell Ave. U.S. EPA representatives will describe the cleanup options being considered. The community will have the opportunity to ask questions and offer comments on all the options.
The Koppers site is located just south of Oroville near State Route 70. Wood treating operations have been used at the site since 1848. In 1984, the Koppers site was added to the Nation Prioritiies List (NPL). The NPL is the list of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites nationwide which pose the greatest threat to human health and the environment. Sites on the NPL qualify for federal long-term cleanup efforts.
