FOUR INDICTED IN OKLAHOMA FOR HAZARDOUS WASTE CHARGES

Carl Dale Turnbow, President of TTI and Turnbow Trailers Inc. (TTI) of Oilton, Okla., Billy Greene, and Jimmy Downs were charged on Nov. 5 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma in Tulsa with federal crimes that included conspiracy and violating the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The charges allege that Turnbow directed several employees to illegally transport, store, treat and subsequently dispose of hazardous wastes containing spent solvents and other chemicals including toluene, acetone, methanol, naptha, lead, chromium, methyl-ethyl ketone, xylene and ethyl-benzene. Some of the waste was allegedly burned in Oilton, releasing hazardous chemicals into the air. If convicted, all three individuals could face a maximum of five years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $250,000. Turnbow Trailers faces a maximum fine of $1 million, if convicted. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.
