EPA Awards $147,000 to the Eight Northern Indian Pueblo Council

(Dallas, Texas – December 1, 2009) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $147,000 to the Eight Northern Indian Pueblo Council of New Mexico. The funds will be used to develop and manage environmental programs to protect and improve the environment and public health of member Pueblos and Tribes (Nambe, Picuris, Pojoaque, Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Ohkay Owingeh, Taos, Tesuque, and Ysleta del Sur of Texas). The funds will also be used to develop the capacity to manage specific activities including attending monthly meetings with consortia members, conducting strategic planning with consortia members to identify Pueblo and Tribal needs, provide technical assistance and training, dissemination of educational information to consortia communities, provide environmental education programs for youth and attend national meetings.
