The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday will host the 2002 National Environmental Performance Track Annual Members Event. EPA Administrator Christie Whitman will kick off the annual meeting in the morning. During her remarks Whitman will announce that she will sign memorandums of agreement with three states, making it easier for members of Performance Track and similar state programs to avail themselves of the benefits offered by both programs. Whitman will also announce a new EPA innovation strategy. This annual event is held to hear member updates, recognize new members and provide an opportunity for members to network.
The National Environmental Performance Track was developed by the EPA to recognize and reward top environmental performers who go beyond compliance with environmental protection. The Performance Track, launched just 22 months ago, already has nearly 280 members. Performance Track members have demonstrated a commitment to sound environmental management, continuous environmental improvement, public outreach, and sustained environmental compliance.
The conference, themed “Partner Today, Preserve Tomorrow,” will focus on one of the key components of Performance Track--to transform relationships among EPA, states, businesses and local communities. The conference also will provide an opportunity for members to exchange best environmental management practices and share information about how they are meeting their Performance Track goals.
