No. 05-OPA152
CHICAGO (August 18, 2005) — Area media are invited to photograph and video the start of cleanup at the former Rockwell International site from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 350 North St. in Allegan, Mich.
EPA experts will be there to answer questions. Access to the site is restricted for health and safety reasons but this one-time-only media peek has been specially arranged. Media
will gather at a place near the site with good visibility from the wastewater treatment plant. Demolition equipment will be visible.
The former Rockwell site is an inactive manufacturing facility occupying about 30 acres adjacent to the city wastewater treatment plant. Over the past 80 years various industrial
processes have resulted in contamination, including PCBs, of the area. The site, now owned by the city of Allegan, is being cleaned up under EPA's Superfund program.
