(Denver, Colo., April 15, 2008) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 8 issued 12 administrative orders in Montana from Oct. 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008, under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
Even though Montana has primary authority over the Safe Drinking Water Act, EPA can take federal action against public water systems in the State that violate the SDWA and its regulations. EPA and Montana have developed a joint state/federal work-share arrangement that recognizes limited resources in Montana’s Public Water Supply Bureau whereby EPA provides federal assistance with selected enforcement cases. EPA and Montana work together to identify the public water systems against which EPA will take federal action. An administrative order requires the public water system to comply with the drinking water regulations and includes action items for returning to compliance. EPA issued administrative orders to the following Montana public water systems:
Brockway Supper Club, Circle, Mont.
Sam’s Café Pryor Creek Bar, Huntley, Mont.
Ram’s Head Saloon and Fine Dining, Inc., Huntley, Mont.
Neihart, Town of, Neihart, Mont.
Winston Bar, Winston, Mont.
Branding Iron Saloon, Roundup, Mont.
River Bend, Libby, Mont.
Church of Christ 48th Street West, Billings, Mont.
Black Angus Restaurant, Kalispell, Mont.
Ramble Inn, Inc., Sun River, Mont.
Blain’s Mobile Home Court, Inc., Billings, Mont.
Silver City Saloon, Helena, Mont.
EPA oversees the protection of public health and the environment in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. Compliance and enforcement are important components of public health and environmental protection which encourage governments, businesses and other regulated entities to meet their environmental and public health obligations.
