(ATLANTA – June 22, 2007) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will join a consortium of federal, state and local government agencies, non-profit and industry organizations to hold the Southeast Diesel Collaborative Second Annual Partners Conference in Atlanta on June 26-27, 2007. The Southeast Diesel Collaborative is a public-private partnership composed of stakeholders from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The goal of the collaborative is to improve air quality by encouraging the use of clean, renewable energy and by reducing diesel emissions from existing engines and equipment. The conference will focus on nationally and regionally significant diesel emissions issues, bringing together experts for strategic planning for 2008 to promote clean, renewable fuels and emerging clean diesel technology for the agriculture/biodiesel, heavy construction and on-road sectors. A Policy Maker Roundtable will feature agriculture, energy, environmental and transportation Commissioners, Secretaries and Directors from the eight southeastern states to identify priority areas and challenges for the Collaborative. The latest in technology, research, strategies and projects will be presented by manufacturers, academia, organizations and state and local representatives.
Organized in early 2006 by EPA Region 4, the Southeast Diesel Collaborative has enjoyed unprecedented success in bringing together leaders from federal, state and local governments, organizations, industry and academia to reduce diesel engine emissions across the eight southeastern states. Focused on promoting a cleaner environment, energy independence and growing, sustainable economies, this partnership offers wide ranging health and economic benefits to the agriculture, heavy construction and on-road sectors.
