EPA’s Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee (PPDC) will meet April 16-17 at the Holiday Inn, 625 First St., Alexandria, Va.; hotel phone: 703-548-6300. Among the major topics to be presented and discussed are an update on the implementation of the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA), including EPA’s plans for applying a ten-fold safety factor in its review of pesticide tolerances (maximum residue levels), and the criteria that is being developed for allowing the use of non-registered pesticides in emergency situations. Other subjects that will be addressed include the Agency’s approach to reassessing tolerances for organophosphates; a review of the comments received to date on a draft pesticides brochure for consumers; EPA’s efforts to plan for registration review of all pesticides every 15 years; and an update on the Agency’s efforts to revise the ecological risk assessment process. The meeting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on April 16, and will close at 12:30 p.m. on April 17. Membership on the PPDC includes representatives from federal and state government, consumer and environmental/public interest groups, agrichemical manufacturers, pesticide user and commodity groups, academia, public health groups and the public. The committee provides advice and guidance to EPA’s Office if Pesticide Programs on regulatory and policy issues associated with evaluating and reducing risks from the use of pesticides.
