NEW COMMUNITY GRANTS INITIATIVE ANNOUNCED
EPA has proposed a new community grants initiative, Innovative Community Partnerships (ICP), with 11 initial pilot projects. Funding of $4.4 million for the ICP grants has been proposed in the President=s FY 2001 budget. The Agency will confer with stakeholders on the grant criteria and application process. Plans are to launch the initiative in 2001. Priority consideration will be given to proposals dealing with restoration and protection of community watersheds and airsheds, integrated community planning for environmental results and environmentally responsible redevelopment and revitalization. The 11 projects include community consensus-building in Concord, N.H., promoting alternatives to sprawl through working partnerships between Silicon Valley businesses and local government and transit-oriented development in Chicago, Miami, and the San Francisco region. Collectively, the projects share an emphasis on local innovation, cross-media environmental approaches, and community partnerships to achieve measurable environmental results and promote more livable communities. As part of an interactive partnership process, pilot grant recipients will provide feedback to EPA as they achieve results. Around June 1, additional information on ICP and other EPA community grant opportunities will be available at: https://www.epa.gov/livablecommunities/grants
