EPA Kicks Off World Water Monitoring Day With an Event in Annandale Virginia

(Washington, D.C.– October 15, 2004) An event commemorating World Water Monitoring Day and the anniversary of the Clean Water Act will take place on Sunday, October 17, in Annandale, Virginia's Wilburdale Park from 1 to 4 p.m. hosted by Benjamin Grumbles, EPA’s Acting Administrator for Water. Among the scheduled activities include water monitoring demonstrations, invasive species plant removal, tree planting and a variety of hands-on activities for adults and children. Partners in this event are the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District, the Fairfax Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program, Fairfax County government, EPA, the National Zoo, and Earth Sangha.
WHO: EPA’s Acting Assistant Administrator for Water, Benjamin Grumbles, Chief Operations Office for America’s Clean Water Foundation, Allan Stokes, the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District, the Fairfax Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program, Fairfax County government, EPA, the National Zoo, and Environmental Organization “Earth Sangha.”

WHEN: Sunday, October 17 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: Wilburdale Park, Annandale, Virginia, north of Braddock Road, about a mile inside the Beltway on Wilburdale Drive.
Directions: Wilburdale Park is north of Braddock Road, about a mile inside the Beltway. From 495, take Braddock Road east. Turn left on Backlick Road.
Turn left on Wilburdale Drive. Go either way at the T. Park along the street near the Park.
